Who owns this guide

The Toronto Home Water Guide and SoftPro Water Systems have the same owners. SoftPro Water Systems sells water softeners, filters and reverse osmosis systems online from the United States. This guide is a homeowner information site; it does not sell anything itself, and it is not a plumbing company.

Where we link to the store

Only a few water treatment pages link to the store: the pages on softeners, softener costs, hardness, whole house filters and reverse osmosis, plus the lead pipe guide. Each link sits in a short product note with a disclosure beside it. Pages on flooding, permits, frozen pipes, water heaters and costs carry no store links. SoftPro Water Systems is a US store, so check that it ships to your address before you order.

How we handle the store's claims

The facts on every page come from City of Toronto, Ontario and Health Canada sources, and those sources decide what a page says about Toronto's water. A product note describes what the product is for and points out what it does not do. Where a product holds a third-party certification, the note names the certifier, the standard and the file number. Marketing claims from a product listing are not repeated as facts.

What we don't do

We don't rank stores or plumbers, take payment for placement, or carry advertising. We don't say Toronto's water needs treatment when the City's figures say it doesn't: a softener on Toronto's moderately hard water is a comfort choice, and the pages say so. See about this guide for how pages are researched, and the all guides page for every topic.
