Privacy Policy
The Toronto Home Water Guide collects no personal information from you: it has no forms, accounts, comments, newsletters, advertising or analytics scripts.
What we collect
Nothing that you type in. The site has no contact forms, sign-ups, accounts, comments or search box, and it does not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
The pages themselves set no cookies and run no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Text uses fonts already on your device, so no font service is contacted, and the site's photos and drawings are served from the site itself. The one exception is the preview picture of a video, described under Videos below.
Hosting and server logs
The site is a set of static pages served by a third-party hosting and content delivery provider. Like any web host, the provider receives the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type, in order to deliver the page, protect the service against abuse and keep it running. That processing is governed by the hosting provider's own privacy policy. The guide's editors do not use this information to identify visitors.
Videos
Some guides show one short video from YouTube, chosen from public bodies such as the City of Toronto, other Ontario municipalities and regions, the Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, or from educational channels. These players are click-to-load. Until you press play, the page shows only a preview picture and a play button: your browser fetches that picture from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com) when the video area comes into view, which sends that server the usual request details, such as your IP address and browser type. No YouTube player, script or cookie loads at that stage.
When you press play, the YouTube player loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced address, youtube-nocookie.com, and the video starts. From that point YouTube's own privacy policy applies, and YouTube may store information in your browser as part of playing the video. If you would rather not contact YouTube at all, you can leave the video unplayed: each page's text covers the same topic without it.
Links to other sites
Guides link to the sources they cite, mostly government pages such as the City of Toronto, the Government of Ontario and Health Canada. When you follow a link you leave this site, and the other site's privacy practices apply.
Changes
If the site starts to collect any information, or adds a service that does, this page will be updated first and the change described here. Last reviewed October 2026.
