Terms of Use
The Toronto Home Water Guide offers general information about water and plumbing in Toronto homes; by using the site you accept that it is not professional advice.
Using this site
You are welcome to read, link to and share the guides for personal, non-commercial use. Please link to the page rather than copying it in full. The site exists to inform homeowners; it is not a plumbing business, and nothing on it is an offer to do, sell or arrange any work.
Not professional advice
The guides explain what Toronto, Ontario and federal public bodies such as Health Canada publish. They are not plumbing, engineering, legal, insurance or medical advice, and they cannot account for the conditions in your home. Programs, by-laws, fees and policies change; always confirm with the source linked on the page, with 311 or Toronto Building, with your insurer, or with a licensed professional before you act.
Costs and prices
Amounts on this site are in Canadian dollars and come from named public sources, dated as of the source's own date or October 2026. They are not quotes and not estimates for your job. Actual prices vary by home and by contractor; get written, itemized quotes. Subsidy figures describe the City's published rules; the City decides every application.
Health and safety
Do not attempt work that needs a licence or a permit without one. Gas appliances must be handled by a contractor registered with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, and electrical work is for licensed electricians. Never thaw a pipe with an open flame. For questions about lead or other health matters, contact Toronto Public Health or your doctor.
Changes
The guides are reviewed and updated over time, and these terms may change with them. The site is provided as is, and the editors are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of its general information. Last reviewed October 2026.
